EPI 2008 will be the largest, most comprehensive and experimental show of prints ever presented in Western Canada. The Society of Northern Alberta Print-artists (SNAP) will present a major visual art exhibition and symposium that will offer Edmonton audiences an entertaining and kaleidoscopic view of the best prints being done in the world today. EPI 2008 is a world-class event that will focus attention on Edmonton as a centre of vision and leadership in visual arts and culture. EPI 2008 will open eyes and minds to evolving graphic traditions around the world, engaging audiences with a magical energy and sense of connection with artists and cultures from Boston to Beijing.
The collection reveals a startling diversity of imagery concepts and
themes in techniques ranging from miniature lino-cuts to bookworks, digital
prints, wall size etchings and three dimensional prints and installations.
From realism to comics, the abstract to the conceptual, and the carved
to the photographic, EPI has it all.
SNAP issued an open call for entries in late 2007. With the support and
sponsorship from the public and private sectors, a selections jury met
in May to review over 1200 images along with work by artists nominated
by the EPI advisory committee. On July 11th, an international prize jury
awarded over $30,000 in prizes. These award winning art works and more
can be seen in EPI 2008.
The EPI 2008 confirms SNAP’s mission to support printmaking and related activity; to increase the local community's understanding and appreciation of printmaking and print-related work; to provide a forum for local artists to gain exposure to print techniques and print-related issues; and to facilitate the exchange and exhibition of work from local, regional, national and international artists.
The EPI 2008 exhibition catalogue will be available for purchase.
